Owner's Description

The 2001 American Buffalo Silver Dollar was issued to commemorate the National Museum of the American Indian of the Smithsonian Institution. This classic design by James Fraser's Buffalo Nickel was a huge hit with collectors. Both proof and uncirculated versions quickly sold out. This sell out was done in just two short weeks in June, 2001.
FAST FACT: Because of the quick sell out, the National Museum of the American Indian sought to have the Mint issue an additional 250,000 to 500,000 coins, but the Treasury Secretary refused the request.
The Buffalo/Indian coin was taken from the 1913 nickel. This coin also enjoys being one of the TOP 50 Coins designation, and has a special label for it when asked to be re-holdered with NGC.
NGC UNIVERSAL ID 28VE. Catalog #KM-325. Mintage: 272,869. Population: 1511. Pre-issue Price: $33.00. Regular Price: $37.00.
