The United States Mint along with colaberation of the Republic of Iceland issued a 2000 Leif Ericson Silver Dollar Commemorative coin. The program also included an Icelandic 1,000 kronur coin. Both coins depicted Leif Ericson on the 1,000th anniversary of his discovery of the New World.
The obverse shows a bust of Ericson and the reverse exhibits a viking ship.
FAST FACT: There is a replica ship built by a local gentleman in Moorhead, Minnesota, which was actually sailed by freinds and neighbers and is on exhibit there at a place called the Hjemkomst-Heritage Interpretive Center.
