Owner's Description

The 2004 Thomas Alva Edison Silver Dollar was issued to mark the 125th anniversary of the inventor's successful demonstration of the electric light bulb, which was on October 21, 1879.
The obverse of the coin is a portrait of Thomas Edison and the reverse features an image of Edison's first light bulb.
YES, IT'S TRUE: In 1962, the United States Navy commissioned USS Thomas A. Edison, a fleet ballistic missile nuclear powered submarine.
In 1920 the United States Navy awarded him the Navy Distinguished Service Medal.
In 1928 on May 29, Edison received the Congressional Gold Medal.

The Thomas Edison Commemorative Silver Dollar was minted in proof and uncirculated versions at the Philadelphia Mint. The coins were initially offered at pre-issue prices, and a regular pricing going into effect later. A Collectors Set was limited to 25,000 at $49.95. It contained the proof as well as the uncirculated version in a presentation case that illuminated when opened.
