The obverse of the coin was designed by Marika Somogye, while the reverse was by John Mercanti.
Mintage: 35,380. Population: 495. NGC Universal ID: 28VA. Catalog #KM-324. Pre-issue Price: $30.00. Regular Price: $32.00.
The 2001 Capitol Visitor Center Commemorative Silver Dollar was issued as part of a proposed Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, DC The obverse of the commemorative Dollar presents an image of the original capitol with the date 1800 and later with 2001.
The reverse features an eagle with shield and rays around it.
Both the proof and uncirculated versions of the 2001 Capitol Visitor Center Silver Dollar were minted at the Philadelphia Mint.
The surcharges from the sale of the coin was to benefit the construction of the proposed visitor center.
