Owner's Description

The 250th Anniversary of the birth of Chief Justice John Marshall is the reason for the issuing of this commemorative. He was Chief Justice of the United States from 1801 to 1835.
He established the doctrine of Judicial Review, asserting that The Supreme Court has the authority to overturn an act of Congress if it exceeds it's powers granted to it in the Constitution.
The obverse shows a left side image portrait and the reverse shows the old Supreme Court Chamber in the Capitol.
TIDBIT: Over the 34 year term as chief justice, John Marshall delivered over 1,000 decisions and penned more than 500 opinions.
