Owner's Description

The obverse of the coin depicts the feet of the :little Rock Nine" escorted by a soldier to enter the school. This group of nine black students entered the previously segregated facility following the landmark decision of Brown vs. Board of Education.
FAST FACT: The judge who ordered the desegregation of the Little Rock High School was Judge Ronald Davies. He was a federal distric judge from Fargo, North Dakota. There is now a high school there named in his honor.

The court order of 1957 is commemorated on its 50th anniversay of the desegregation of the Little Rock Central High School. It was a landmark decision of Brown v.Board of Education, decided by Judge Ronald Davies of Fargo, North Dakota.
The obverse was designed by Richard Masters and the reverse by Don Everhart.The obverse shows the feet of the students escorted to school and the reverse shows the schoolhouse as it appeared in 1957.
