Owner's Description

In 1961 the Old Mint as it had become known, was designated a National Historical Landmark. The given name "The Granite Lady" is quit a misnomer as most of the building is made from sandstone.
YES IT'S TRUE: in 2003 the federal government sold the structure to the City of San Francisco for one dollar-an 1879 silver dollar struck at the mint-for use as the Museum of the City of San Francisco.
Mintage: 160,870. Population: 1834. NGC Universal ID: 28W9. Catalog #KM-394. Pre-issue Price: $35.00. Regular Price" $39.00.
The Old San Francisco Mint sales began on August 15, 2006. Both the proof and uncirculated strikes were offered individually. The proof strike of the coin was included in the 2006 United States Mint American Legacy Collection, which was priced at $135.00 and limited to 35,000.
Surcharges added to the cost of all the commemorative coins were given to the San Francisco Museum and Historical Society for the fixing up of the Old Mint as a city museum and gold rush museum.
