Owner's Description

The San Francisco Mint opened in 1854 to serve the needs of the California gold rush. In 1874 it moved into what is now known as The Old Mint or affectionately the Granite Lady. It got that nickname because it was among only a few buildings that survived the 1906 great earthquake.
DID YOU KNOW? Within the first year of opening the Mint turned $4 million in gold bullion into coins.
Mintage: 67,100. Population: 2770. NGC Universal ID: 28W8. Catalog #KM-394. Pre-issue Price: $33.00. Regular Price: $35.00.
The 2006 Old San Francisco Mint Silver Dollar was issued to mark the cntennial of the survival of the building following the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, and subsequent fire. The "Granite Lady" as it was called was also key in the recovery of the city following the disaster.
The obverse of the Old San Francisco Mint Commemorative Silver Dollar features the left front corner of the building. The reverse has a copy of the reverse of the Morgan Dollar, which was issued from 1878-1921. The Morgan coin was struck at this mint for many years.
