Owner's Description

The Smithsonian was established for the increase of knowledge through a group of museums and research centers administered by the United States government. It was originally organized as the United States National Museum
DID YOU KNOW" It's termed as the nations attic for its eclectic holdings of 137 million items.
In Washington D.C. it has nineteen museums, nine research centers, and a zoo.

The Smithsonian Institute was established in August of 1846 and holds over one million items of interest to collectors. The silver dollar was issued for the 150th anniversary of that establishment by Congress.The obverse designed by Thomas D. Rogers, Sr, and depicts wonderfully the castle like building on the Mall in Washinton D.C.
The reverse shows a goddess sitting on top of the world holding a scroll and a torch. John Mercanti was the designer.
