Owner's Description

The Special Olympics is the Worlds largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. It was founded by Eunice Shriver. A sister of the former President John F. Kennedy.
She started in June of 1962 with a day camp for children with disabilities at her home.
IT"S TRUE: Rosemary Kennedy, Eunice's sister underwent a lobotomy in an effort to cure her mental disability. The damage she occurred in her brain as a result of this left her permanently incapacitated.
This is often credited as Eunice Shriver's inspiration and drive to begin Special Olympics.
The first International Games were held in Chicago in 1968 at Soldier Field. At those games she formally announce the formation of the Special Olympics.
