Owner's Description

The memorial is located in the Hemicycle, the ceremonial entrance to Arlington National Cemetery. The memorial is notable for its mixing of Neoclassical and Modern architecture. The memorial mainly retained the Hemicycle, but added a skylight on the terrace that incorporates not only memorials to servicewomen but also acts as a transition to the memorial below. Raising funds to payoff the debt incurred in the construction took seven years.

The 1994 Women in Military Service Memorial Silver Dollar is one of three "Memorial" themed coins in the 1994 commemorative program. Others being The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Silver Dollar, and The Prisoner of War Memorial Silver Dollar.
The Women in Military Service Silver Dollars were struck at the Philadelphia Mint for the proof and the West Point Mint for the uncirculated version. The coins were offered as part of a three coin proof or uncirculated set of the memorial themed silver dollars. The coins were also issued individually.
