Owner's Description

Opened in 1998, the National Prisoner of War Museum tells the story of prisoners of war throughout American History. This facility doubles as the Andersonville National Cemetery visitor center as well. Exhibits use art, photographs, displays and video presentations to focus on the capture, living conditions, hardships and experiences of American prisoners of war in all periods.

The 1994 Prisoner of War Memorial Silver Dollar was part of a three coin commemorative issue of similarity. Those being The Women in Military Service Memorial, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
This particular coin was issued for the future Prisoner of War Memorial Museum to be built in Andersonville, Georgia.
The obverse was done by Tom Nielson and the reverse by Edgar Z. Steever.
