Owner's Description

This commemorative was issued in 1993 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the United States involvement in World War II from 1941 to 1945. Surcharges from the sales of the coins included the construction of the World War II monument and Washington D.C. and a D-Day monument planned for France, which was never constructed. The 1993 commemorative has a maximum mintage authorization of 1,000,000 across proof and uncirculated coins. Proof were struck at West Point Mint and the uncirculated were struck at the Denver Mint.

The coins were sold individually or as part of a two coin three coin, and six coin set. The silver dollar was also featured in a young collectors set and a coin and medal set which included a French frac.
