Owner's Description

Established as a non-profit organization providing programs, services, and entertainment to US Troops and their families, dependence relies heavily on private contributions. Working closely with the Department of Defense, they operate 160 centers through-out the world. In peace times and in conflicts, "camp shows" were where they would bring in "live" shows to entertain the troops. The most notable entertainer was Bob Hope. Today Gary Sinese is very active in the USO ranks.
DID YOU KNOW? In 1991 a film produced by 20th Century Fox called For the Boys starring Bette Midler and James Caan told a story about two USO performers.

In 1991 the United States Mint issued a Silver Dollar to cmmemorate the 50th anniversary of the USO (United Service Organization). The USO was founded in 1941 and is a nonprofit organization to provide morale and entertainment to members of the U.S. Military.The obverse is a image of the pennant of the USO flag.
The reverse of the coin is that of an eagle on the globe of the earth. The eagle has a ribbon in its beak with USO letters on it.
