Owner's Description

Mount Rushmore was sculpted by Danish-American Gutzon Borglum and his son Lincoln. The entire memorial covers 1,278 acres and is 5,725 feet above sea level. Construction began in 1927 the presidents faces were completed between 1934 and 1939. Lack of funding stopped the completion of the memorial which was to have covered the President's from head to waist.
This huge undertaking for the Memorial is just minutes from Rapid City, South Dakota in the Black Hills. Did you know? Washington's head is over five stories tall, and the monument is taller than the Pyramids in Egypt based on sea level.
The mountain carving was designed by Gutzon Borglum who died before its completion. NGC UNIVERSAL ID is 28RA, Catalog # KM-229. Mintage: 133.139. Population: 500. Pre-issue Price: $23.00. Regular Price: $26.00.
1991 was the year the Mount Rushmore Commemorative Silver Dollar was issued for the golden (50th) anniversary of the national monument. The reverse of the coin shows the Great Seal of the United States, and an image of the outline of the U.S.
