Owner's Description

Throughout the years the Constitution has developed and expanded to meet the changing needs of the United States. James Madison, said "In framing a system which we wish to last for ages, we should not lose sight of the changes which ages will produce". The Constitution was designed to serve the interests of the people, rich and poor, Northerners and Southerners, farmers, workers, and businessmen.

There were two delegates to the Constitution that later became President of The United States, they are George Washington and James Madison. The first 10 amendments to the Constitution are known as the Bill of Rights. It was proposed by James Madison 15 changes and 12 were submitted for approval by the states, of which only the 10 were passed.

The 1987 Constitution Silver Dollar was issued to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Constitution of the United States, which was adopted on Sept. 17, 1787.
The obverse of the silver dollar depict sheets of parchment and a quill pen. On the reverse are 13 diverse people intended to represent the vas cultural and social spectrum of the US.
The denomination is shown uncharacteristically as "Dollar 1".
