Owner's Description

The Statue has been closed several times on many different dates due to many things. The public has been barred access to the balcony surrounding the torch since 1916.
In the 1980s, the Statue was found to have deteriorated so much that restoration was required. It was closed from 1984 to 1986 where the torch and a large part of the internal structures were repaired or replaced. After September 11, 2001, the Statue was closed for safety reasons. The pedestal re-opened in 2004, and the Statue itself in 2009. In October of 2012 the statue was closed so a second staircase an safety items could be installed. It then re-opened again on July 4, 2013.

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddles masses yearning to breath free". This is the words engraved on a bronze plaque inside the statue. The Statue of Liberty was struck in San Francisco for the proof version of the silver dollar, and in Philadelphia Mint for the uncirculated. The silver dollar was sold individually or as part of a two, three, or six coin set. The coins did have pre-issue pricing before regular ones went into effect.
