the 1984 Olympics Commemorative Silver Dollar was the second coin struck and issued to celebrate the Los Angeles Olympics. The obverse shows the entrance to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. This is where the opening and closing ceremonies were held.
This Olympics proved very successful for the United States teams, as the soviet union and some of it's allies boycotted them in retaliation to President Reagans boycott of their Olympics.
The reverse features a bald eagle. An uncirculated silver dollars were struck at all three mints, Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. The proof coin was only minted at the San Francisco Mint. The uncirculated Philadelphia coin and proof coins that were struck at the San Francisco Mint were available on an individual basis. The remaining uncirculated coins were available in a three coin set.
