Owner's Description

Grover Cleveland served the second of his non-consecutive terms from 1893 through 1897, the only President to do so. He returned to office with his wife, Francis, and their child Baby Ruth. Many believe that the candy bar was named after the baby girl, but this was a ploy by the candy company to avoid paying royalties to Babe Ruth, who was very popular at the time the candy bar entered the market. Clevelands second term saw his popularity wane as the country prepared to enter the 2oth century. The people were beginning to look toward the government for social support, to which Cleveland replied The people should support the government, not the government support the people. This lack of vision and inability to change his views cost him a third term in office.
