Owner's Description

On paper, John Adams was the most deserving man of his time to be president. He was the nation's first Vice-President, and an influential founding father. However, Adams was not personally well-suited to be president, and because of this he served only one term from 1797 to 1801. He did not play well with others, and his management style earned him many enemies and detractors, even in his own party. He was the first president to take up residence in the then unfinished Executive Mansion, and the first to add a secrectary to his cabinet, creating the Department of the Navy in response to the growing hostilities between England and France. Adams died on July 4th, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
