Owner's Description

The year 1952 saw the mint increase its proof production on the Franklins to 81,980. Although the mint is fully aware of the shortcomings of packaging individual coins in the cellophane they continued the practice with this year. Planchets are at times being ill prepared for proof stamping but the main distraction for this year was the hairlines. Again, cameo’s are rare as individual die are replaced but not as a pair. The repolishing techniques used by the U.S. Mint still leave a lot to be desired. Cameo’s seem to be one-sided because of the replacing only one die so you could end up with a nice frosty obverse and a reverse that could only be considered brilliant at best or visa-verse. 1952 was known as the year of the one-sided cameo.
