Owner's Description

This coin is one of three won at an auction from Heritage Coin Galleries. This 1958 along with the '56 & '57, all from the Philadelphia mint are all mint set toned. This '58 has some of the most awesome colors that the photographs here do not do justice to. There are purples, oranges and blue-greens throughout with the most striking colors being on the reverse. This P-mint Franklin also has a pretty low mintage to start with, with NGC seeing only 320 total coins in all degrees of full bell line "mint state". Of this number only 80 in this high of grade. And there are only two coins that have been found to grade higher and both of those are only one point better in MS-67 FBL. When one is holding in their hand, a coin that has less than 100 in that condition, and only two graded better, then one is holding a very scarce coin indeed, and one that is bordering on rare. Again, I feel very lucky to have an example this nice, of a date in a series that is by far, "my favorite". The total original mintage for this P-mint Franklin was a mere 4,042,000 coins. Of that one can see from the "pops" that over 99% have gone to the "melting pot". This coins Denver counterpart saw a total mintage 20 million+ over this issue.
