Signature Set Overview

Set Category: Thematic & Topical Coins

Set Name: High Seas

Set Theme: Coins depicting sailing vessels from the US and every corner of the world

Set Description: I started this set just collecting the Early US Commemorative Coins with ships on them. I figured that since there were only a handful of early commems with ships on them I would finish the set quickly.Years later, I have collected ship theme coins from all over the world. I love the artistry, myriad of shapes of the coins themselves, different metals,ages-periods of history, there are probably hundreds{thousands?] and it has become more fun to me than building a registry set at times.I have them from every continent and will keep trying to find them from as many countries as possible. Also I like to collect different types of sailing ships:skipjacks, schooners, frigates, barques, galleons...etc.etc.If you enjoy coins for either their beauty, artistry, or history, then I hope that you will enjoy looking through this collection. I have tried to add either a comment on the history of the ship, design of the ship, or country of origin {with more than a few personal thoughts and observations mixed in}...I hope you enjoy....

I have spent some time trying to figure out how to best list this collection in some kind of order. A list by denomination would simply not work due to the different currency of all the different countries. An alphabetical list didn't appeal to me because it would leave the United States near the end-and those coins are the ones I started this set with.Since there is no way to put headings in the list and seperate them geographically by region that also seemed impractical. In the end there is no particular order except that I have tried to put most of my favorite ones at the beginning...and just add the rest to the end of the collection as it keeps growing...
