Set Description:
The Arlington Collection can still be viewed at my website: http://www.acdwyer.com/.
In early 2008, after three years of having the #1 set of Type 1 Double Eagles on the NGC Registry, I felt it was time to let someone else have a shot at the top.
During this time, The Arlington Collection has become the second most viewed set of any type on the registry, which says a lot about the popularity of Type 1 Double Eagles and shipwreck coins.
It now includes much more than just double eagles. In the future I hope to put my type collection on the registry and even a couple of signature sets.
Highlights of The Arlington Collection of Double Eagles were: 1860-O MS60PL (SS Republic) - This coin is not only the finest known, but the only
1860-O graded mint state by either NGC or PCGS. It is also the only example of the
1860-O found in the shipwreck.
The top three graded coins in the collection are each from a different shipwreck:
1857-S MS65PL (SS Central America)
1865 MS65 (SS Republic)
1865-S MS65 (SS Brother Jonathan)
Other highlights include: 1854-O AU53
1855-O AU58 SS Republic (one of only 3 found in the wreck, all AU58)
1856-O AU55 (NGC and PCGS have graded only 16 coins in total with 3 graded higher)
1857 MS63 (beautiful condition census with NGC grading only 2 higher, PCGS none higher)
1857-S MS63DMPL SS Central America (would not fit in this set)
1859-O AU58 (look no clash marks, what do the experts know?)
1859-S DDO AU53 SS Republic (would not fit in this set)
1861 MS63PL SS Republic (highest graded PL from the wreck)
1861-O AU58 SS Republic (unique, only example found in the wreck of any grade)
