My goal for this set was to complete it from "raw" coins I surveyed and purchased, then submitted to NGC for grading, which I accomplished, so I feel this is a pure set in its truest form. I started this collection in 2011. After having done a multitude of research both reading and talking to some of the top authority's on Franklins, and searching over hundreds of coins, I have been fortunate enough to acquire (3) Top-Pop Proofs for their particular tier so far, the 1951 Proof, 1957 Cameo Proof and the 1961 Proof. To find gem level collectable proof Franklin's during this time of manufacturing by the U.S. Mint is a daunting task to say the least. One major problem was the way the dies were prepared and maintained, another was the preparation of the planchet's. It was during this period (1950 - 1963) that the U.S. Mint labored over how to produce more than a few fantastic proofs let alone in cameo and maybe even the elusive ultra cameo and have the dies be consistent throughout the runs. I will discuss each year individually, in detail, so you may understand this fantastic coin more fully. I still to this day continue this fantastic adventure as I am always looking for that next one I feel will "make the grade" to be added to my Franklin Proof collections.
