Owner's Description

I originally bought this note (1 colon, P125b) thinking this would be a cheap modern set to put together whilst working on the Mexican Revolutionary period. However when researching this note there not only appeared to be several notes with this design (P120, P123, P125, P133A) but there did not seem to be a record of all the Series that had been produced. It rapidly became apparent that there was even less information on the dates and signatures on the back! This seemed to be the situation with almost all of the issues from El Salvador so it started a project to trying to sort all this information out, although very far complete it was great that the information is now part of the El Salvador Chapter of the Banknote Book released in 2022.

This note is dated 3rd May 1979 and Series VR and the front of the note shows the Cerrón Grande hydroelectric dam on the Lempa River which opened in 1976 and is a major source of power for the country enabling modernisation and industrialisation. This also resulted in the formation of Suchitlán Lake, which is the largest body of fresh water in El Salvador and now a protected wetland. The back of the note features of portrait of Christopher Columbus, a validation stamp and the issue date of 20th June 1979 with the signature of Esuebio Martell.
