Owner's Description

The example note is a 5 quetzales dated 13th January 1960 which has a flying quetzal and a three legged Mayan funeral urn on the front. The note is signed by Gustavo Miron Porras (President), Jose Francisco Fernandez Rivas (Manager) and Albino Gracias Paniagua (Head of Account Control). The scene on the back is from a mural by Alfredo Galvez Suarez housed in the Palacio Nacional which shows the clash of the Spanish with the local Maya – not just swords against bows and arrows but the importance of the church as a driving force in the colonialisation of the region.
