Owner's Description

This dime is a Heraldic Eagle (1798-1807) type draped bust. This dime is pretty interesting in that it is using the die from the 1797 JR-2 Obverse (13 Starts) with the 8 engraved over top of the 7. For the reverse it is using the reverse of the 16 star quarter eagle ($2.50 gold piece - I think also from 1797) - they hated to stop using a die before it was completely shot. The heraldic eagle here has a much longer neck than the regular heraldic eagle on other dimes - looks a little like a turkey.
