Owner's Description

The 1939 Philadelphia nickel is such a rare piece with a full step designation. These Jeffersons were very tough to find. In 1939 the mint had made (2) Reverses, in which roughly around 10% had this (type1) or the reverse of 1938. After running production for the first few weeks the mint decided they needed an upgrade immediately.

They didn't like the dainty' thin lettering, plus the steps wasn't that clearly defined either. When the Reverse of 1940
did come out it was quite an improvement satisfing the officials. This new reverse was alot sharper in detail and also stronger in the step area.

But for the early reverse of 38', it was a (1 out of a 1000) finding these that had clean full steps. Popular demand with short supply will surely keep driving up the value on these 38-reverse jeffersons.

The marks or lines you see are on the holder, not on this coin.
