Owner's Description

O.103 R1. Finest known of the die marriage variety. "A heavy die line connects the upper edge of the left (facing) wing with the left end of the scroll, and that is diagnostic for the variety as the reverse die was only used one time. This die marriage has a high condition census, including an MS68 and one or two MS67 specimens. The present MS66 coin is likely ranked fifth or sixth in that census. This piece exhibits bold design motifs with frosty luster and magenta centers inside a frame of cobalt-blue and light amber peripheral toning," as described by Heritage cataloger. Earlier from Heritage's sale of the Harold W. Anderson Collection, Part Two, August 2004, lot 6185 and American Numismatic Rarities' Kennywood Collection sale, January 2005, lot 507. From StacksBowers Auction of the Richard C. Jewell Collection on 8/18/2011, Lot 7347. Obtained from Heritage Auction on 1/4/2012, Lot 3218.
