Owner Comments:
NGC graded MS 67 BN
Variety: N-7, die state a
This coin is certainly a gem, but probably does not really merit the MS67BN grade. The luster is very good and there are no notable marks or stains, but the toning is somewhat uneven or splotchy, detracting from the eye appeal a bit.
I obtained this coin from Heritage's January 2006 FUN show auction. It was this cent's fourth appearance in a Heritage auction in six years! Other bidders, and perhaps owners, must have agreed with my criticism of the slab grade, as the price was low for an MS67.
From the Heritage (2006) catalog:
1851 1C MS67 Brown NGC. N-7, R.1.
Rich golden-brown and cobalt-blue colors endow this well preserved Superb Gem. Well struck on the centers and stars, and only the denticles lack crisp definition. An exceptional example of the Mature Head type.
