Owner Comments:

NGC graded MS 63
Variety: V-3

Valentine described only two varieties for the 1851 Philadelphia issue. Blythe claimed seven obverse dies and five reverse dies were used to strike 1851 half dimes. The late Stephen Crain, aka Mr. Half Dime, had examples he attributed as V-1, V-2, and V-4, plus a few without Valentine numbers. Two of those unattributed examples are late die state examples of what I am calling V-3. That state has a weak rim cud over star 8 and a strong rim cud over star 10. The present coin is the first V-3 example I have seen that has only the star 8 cud.

Luster: TBD
