Owner Comments:
B-2, BB-72, R.4. An exceptional example of this important variety with gray surfaces. The obverse has intermingled light and dark gray shades while the reverse is mostly lighter gray with faint traces of pale gold toning near the borders. Among early silver dollars, 1797 is an unusual year as just three die varieties are known, but each is a distinctly different type combination and each has a separate listing in the Guide Book. All single-variety Guide Book types, such as each of the three 1797 varieties, are in considerable demand.
