Owner Comments:
Acquired December 2022.
The coin has a dull finish but the definition is intact. There is some luster in the eagle and the ledge on which it stands.
I got this coin at the same time I acquired the 39D 67+. The finish in the two coins is remarkably different. There is, of course, a big difference between 65+ and 67+ but the die must have been poorer in 1916. My 1917 coin has a much better appearance and it is only slightly better at MS66. Even my 1934, which is only a MS62, has a much nicer appearance. I believe NGC woefully under-graded that coin but that's an entirely different discussion.
