Well, this is the second in a line of certification disappointments. I bought the coin raw as an MS64 FH about 8 years ago from a coin shop. At the time I was overwhelmed by the coin’s luster. Today I realize that the strike is not very strong and is probably the primary reason for the MS62 FH designation by NGC. Another lesson in coin grading. The coin remains beautiful to my eyes and I still consider it a worthwhile member of my Type Collection.
I consider the Standing Liberty to be one of the most beautiful U.S. coin designs.
