Owner Comments:

Since Nickel was needed as a strategic component for munitions in WWII, the mint decided to utilize a 35% Silver, 56% Copper and 9% Manganese alloy as opposed to the usual 25% Nickel and 75% Copper alloy. There goes the mint...getting into the war effort again, i.e., 1943 Lincoln steel pennies. Beautiful golden color and overall eye appeal are this wartime Jefferson's strongest attributes. While MS67 war nickels aren't particularly rare, 68's are! Until I can get my hands on one...this'll do nicely.
