With very pleasing mint luster and bold C mintmark, this 1853 half eagle is a proud member of "The Nest." Numerically finer examples exist, and one day a carefully chosen upgrade may occupy this spot in the registry, but grade alone can not be the determining factor for this challenging date. Production quality issues abound, and eye appeal is too sacred to sacrifice for this collection.
