Near-Mint survivors are rare among
Dahlonega quarter eagles; the original mintage was a mere 17,332 pieces.
This coin is free from any strike-throughs or other distractions. The centers show lightness of impression, though peripheral elements, such as the stars and dentils, are sharply struck. CAC's green bean compliments well the caramel gold color with some suggestions of original luster in the more protected areas toward the rims.
CAC has beaned only six finer coins, including a 58+ which I would have loved to purchase from Mr Doug Winter, the legendary numismatic expert with fantastic books on southern gold coins, but I missed his notification of its offering. He took time to speak with me and my wife when we attended our very first coin show in Long Beach 2019. :-)
