Owner Comments:

Formerly of the Christina Chow Collection and description at that time.

With entry into World War II in December 1941, 1942 was the final year the US Mint produced proof coins until 1950. However, the proof sets of 1950 replaced Adolph A. Weinman's Mercury Dime and Walking Liberty Half Dollar with the Roosevelt Dime and Franklin Half Dollar. Also, unlike 1942, the 1950 proof sets included only one Jefferson Nickel - back to its pre-war composition of 75% copper and 25% nickel.

Production of proof coins in 1942 was much higher than any year prior, including 1942 mintage of Washington Quarter Dollars over 6 times higher than that of the first-year-of-issue and key date 1936.

This is a beautiful example with aqua blue and red toning at the obverse and reverse rims. This is one of only three examples graded 68* by NGC, with four finer.
