Owner Comments:
WB-103. Although it is rated R7+ by W&B in mint state, this date seems to be slightly more available than the four CC issues immediately preceding it. Dick Osburn in issue #83 of the Gobrecht Journal gave a detailed analysis with photos of the eight different die marriages used in this date. This coin almost perfectly fits his description of die marriage 6, combining obverse die 5 with the large CC reverse. The postion of the arrows by the date fits exactly, although there is no trace of a rim cud between stars nine and ten. While on the reverse a die line drops down from the second T in STATES towards the W in WE, and there is a small (very small) die pit to the right of the first T in TRUST. Naturally toned with a strong strike on both obverse and reverse, the only other identifying mark is a die crack on the reverse from the H in HALF up towards the U in UNITED. From a Bowers sale of the Lindesmith collection March 2000, lot 611.
