Owner Comments:
F-103. An undistinguished coin whose variety can only be determined by the position of its date. Obviously a Type-1 as only vertical line eight (and not seven) extends upward over the scroll. The dies are unclashed, and that means it is simply a choice between F-103 and F-104. And after some study I came down in favor of F-103. Not the strongest coin in the set as the obverse sports a number of freckles which detract from its eye appeal. One might think the date to be common, but it is tough in gem. PCGS has graded only four coins MS-66 with none finer. NGC does show eleven in MS-66 with two MS-67s finer. Bought from a Heritage sale, March 2003, lot 5532.
