Owner Comments:
This is the first die gouge state with four die gouges at top of Liberty hat. A long die gouge band extends from right side of top left cotton leaf to left side of Phrygian cap fold. This long die gouge remains in all subsequent die states because it is recessed in a die cavity. A short series of die gouge lines is at back of cap fold in edge of field. A wide thorn-like die gouge is in field next to cap below second U in UNUM plus a short die gouge in denticles above N in UNUM. No evidence of die polishing.
