Owner Comments:

O.101 R1. Second finest known for the die marriage. CAC. "Recutting shows on all four digits in the date, with the overdate marked by remnants of the bases of the original 27 beneath the subsequent 29. This obverse is paired with a reverse die showing a long, curved flag atop the 5 in the denomination -- one of three uses in the year, along with O-106 and O-107. The reverse die is not yet far enough along in die lapping to diagnose the later O-101a state. This is a splendid Gem of this available but popular overdate, lavishly toned in stunning hues. Both sides display concentric rings of amber and sky-blue near the rims, bounding centers that offer rose, gold, and lilac color. For the 1829/7, Population: 5 in 65, 2 finer (10/12)," per cataloger.Heritage Auction #1177 on 11/29/2012, Lot 3640.
