Owner Comments:
In 1922 the race was on to create new varieties for collectors. The designer, Laura Gardin Fraser, prepared the design and models, but the Centenary Memorial Association wanted to add an emblem of some sort to create a second variety which would increase profits. With no good ideas presented, they ended up putting a meaningless star in the obverse field of half the gold dollars....There are 4 coins graded higher which are MS68.
