The 1925 double eagle is readily obtainable in grades through MS66. This high availability results in part from the high original mintage of 2.83 million pieces, as well as to their long-term residence in foreign banks during the domestic melts of the 1930s. David Bowers (2004) says that '...foreign hoards provided the source for most examples in the hands of numismatists and investors.'
