Owner Comments:

O.110a R3. The Ugly 3 forms after a die crack proceeds up from the rim along the the right side of the 3, causing it to appear misshapen and thick. "Always hard to find uncirculated and as rare or rarer than the O.101 Broken 3. Perhaps the same novice die engraver produced all three famously curious 1823 varieties: the Broken 3, Patched 3, and Ugly 3. This satiny example is notable for its high grade, and also for its prominently doubled profile on Liberty. Medium golden-brown graces the semi-prooflike surfaces, although a blush of ocean-blue is noted near the C in AMERICA. The lower left obverse field has a few minor marks. From The Findley Collection," per Heritage cataloger.
