NGC graded MS 65 BN
Variety: N-24, die state a
There is nothing particularly notable about this coin. It's just a nice MS65BN late date large cent.
This cent was one of my earliest large cent purchases, coming from a July 2004 Heritage auction.
For some reason, I have always had a mild, but still irrational dislike for the year 1853. That may be part of the reason why my description of the coin is so uninspiring. But my wife seems to agree that others in this collection are better. She rated it #18 of 19 among my late dates. And yet, there's really nothing wrong with it.
From the Heritage catalog:
1853 1C MS65 Brown NGC. N-24, R.2.
A nice example of this late-date Large Cent, a darker brown coin with pleasant, undisturbed surfaces, and some underlying reddish iridescence. There is minor softness to the peripheral details, but the central elements are boldly presented. (#1901)
