Owner Comments:
With a final mintage of 3,075,645 the Franklin Half Dollar came to a premature end with the assassination of President Kennedy in Nov. 1963. A vast majority of these forever disappeared with the big silver boom of late 79 and early 1980 when these common date silver proof coins were melted for their silver content. The quality of the 1963 is marginally better than the 1961 or 1962 as milk spots were still haunting the final product. Hairlines can still be found on most 1963 Franklin Proofs. Finding cameo's is as rare as finding them in the 1961 or 1962. One-sided cameos are still showing up but also finding full cameo (both sides) is very elusive. At current values these later date cameo Franklins offer tremendous value and upside potential and with that we say goodbye to one of the U.S. Mints most fantastic coins ever produced.
