NGC US Coin Census for Eisenhower Dollars (1971-1978)

Owner Comments:

In October of 1973, The Treasury Department announced a contest whereby contestants would submit their designs for commemorative reverses on the quarter-dollar, half-dollar, and dollar coins to celebrate the Bicentennial of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The winning design for the Eisenhower Dollar, offered by Dennis R. Williams, features an image of the Liberty Bell superimposed on the moon. The date on the obverse of the coin minted in 1975 and 1976 is the 200-year dual date 1776-1976. This 40% silver clad MS-68, 1976-S Eisenhower Dollar has uniform luster and a strong strike and features the broader, lower relief letters of the “Type 1” reverse. Minted in San Francisco, this coin typically came in a three-coin set with the quarter and half dollar packaged in cellophane and placed in a red envelope.
