Owner Comments:

PCGS graded MS 63 BN
Variety: N-2

This coin is nicely lustrous on both sides. It is free of significant contact marks; indeed, the few marks are very small and hard to find. The color is great for a BN designation, with significant coppery glow, especially on the reverse. I think it is undergraded by a point, maybe two. What may have influenced the graders are a couple small spots, one at star 5 and one in U of UNITED.

I purchased this coin at the June 2011 Baltimore show. I had been scanning the bourse, compiling a list of potential purchases, mostly half dimes. But the 1829 cent is one that I'd been thinking of upgrading (from an MS61 ex Ron Adam coin that's no longer it its holder). I always check out Chris McCawley's table. He always has a lot of quality copper. This time he had a nice 1829 in MS63BN, but it had a couple noticeable obverse marks, and was priced a little more than I'd be comfortable paying. But another dealer in quality coins (Aspen Park) had this one, a bit better in my opinion, for 3/4 the price of the other. None of the half dimes I was considering really spoke to me like this cent, so my choice was made!
